Welcome to Cygnet Class!
We are a kind and caring class of twenty-nine year one children. Our class teacher is Miss Price but on a Wednesday afternoon Mrs Perry teaches us art and religious education. Our brilliant teaching assistants are Mrs Bridge and Miss Benson.
In Cygnets, we have an inviting and purposeful classroom environment, including a role play area, reading garden and we are lucky enough to have an outdoor learning area just outside our classroom which we love using.
On Monday and Friday we take it in turns to be the teacher and present our ‘Show and Tell’. It is great for our confidence and is the perfect opportunity to practice our presenter voices. This term we are sharing our favourite books to recommend to others!
In mathematics we like to learn through practical activities to ensure that we gain a deep understanding, before moving onto pictorial and abstract concepts. Our maths resources station is always open for us to access.
Our first topic this year was ‘Fire and Light’ where we learnt about the great fire of London, had a visit from some fire fighters and made our own fire engines. This term our topic is ‘Nature and Environment’ which we are really enjoying so far, as we love the outdoors. We have had a visit from some bird specialists and made our own bird feeders. We have written instructions to encourage others to make them too. In the summer term we will be looking at ‘Oceans, Seas and Pirates’.
One day each term we go to Folly Farm on the minibus and learn so many things about the seasons, plants and animals to support our science curriculum.
Our school councillors are Mollie and Elliot.
