Chinchillas
Welcome to Chinchilla Class!
As a very small village school, Stanton Drew has a unique, family feel. We are a small but enthusiastic class of 15 Year 3 and Year 4 children who love to learn, explore, and have fun together.
In our classroom, everyone knows each other well, and we work as a team to help one another grow in confidence and curiosity. This year, we’ll be diving into exciting topics, building our reading and writing skills, exploring numbers in new ways, and discovering more about the world around us. Whether we’re learning inside the classroom or exploring our beautiful village and surroundings, every day is enriching, challenging and fun.
We will continue to maintain our link with our local residential care home, Stanton Court, visiting throughout the year and developing our understanding of the meaning and symptoms of dementia. The children gain a great deal of knowledge and empathy from these visits, and the residents enjoy them immensely.
Homework consists of practising skills using MyMaths and Times Tables Rock Stars, as well as continuing to read, and be read to, as regularly as possible so that their love of reading develops throughout their school years. There is a direct link between reading for pleasure and academic success in secondary school and beyond, but more importantly, if children develop a love for reading when they are young, they are far more likely to continue reading into adulthood. This not only positively impacts their vocabulary and knowledge but can also reduce the amount of time spent using technology in their spare time as adults and may even help improve their mental health.
Chinchilla Class is taught by myself, Mrs Tucker, and supported by Mrs Bryant throughout the week.
