Smartphone Free Childhood

https://www.smartphonefreechildhood.org/

In early 2026, a group of parents carried out a survey to understand family views on smartphones, social media and children’s digital wellbeing within our school communities.

Thank you to everyone who took part. The survey received responses from 70 families, representing around 110 children across the two schools from Reception to Year 6.

The findings suggest that many families share similar questions and concerns around areas such as online safety, screen time, social media and the pressures children may face as they get older. The survey also highlighted interest from many parents in continuing conversations and sharing ideas around supporting children to develop healthy digital habits.

Please find the survey summary below for anyone who would like to read more about the findings.

A small parent group is now working with the Headteacher to consider possible next steps and explore practical ways to support families and the wider school community.

As always, every family will make the choices that are right for their own child and circumstances. Any future activity would be voluntary, inclusive and focused on supporting parents rather than prescribing particular choices.
