Otters
Welcome to Otter Class
We are so pleased to welcome you and your child to Otter Class, this year. We are a happy, welcoming and enthusiastic class bringing children together from Years 3,4,5 and 6. We enjoy sharing ideas, learning from one another and developing a deeper understanding through discussion, questioning and teamwork.
Our afternoons are packed with a wide and exciting range of subjects; including Art, PSHE, Design & Technology, French, Science, History, Geography, P.E., Music and R.E, giving every child the chance to discover new interests and strengths across our rich and varied curriculum.
At the heart of everything we do in Otters Class are our school values: respect, resilience and reflection. We believe children learn best when they feel safe to try; safe to get things wrong and safe to be themselves. Through a balance of collaborative and independent work, we aim to build each child's self-esteem, helping them grow- not only academically - but personally too. We take real care to mark and celebrate achievements, big and small, and we see mistakes, not as setbacks, but as valuable steps in the learning journey — something to be celebrated, not feared.
Throughout the week, we take part in two PE lessons, giving us the chance to develop our fundamental movement skills while learning a variety of sports. This term, we have particularly enjoyed hockey and dance, and we are looking forward to trying handball next.
On Fridays, we enjoy Golden Time as a class reward. This special time allows us to socialise with friends and choose from a range of enjoyable activities. Whether we're joining a teacher-led craft session, building imaginative creations with K'NEX, magnetic tiles or LEGO, or heading outdoors to play games such as parachute activities and quoits, there is always something fun to look forward to.
We love sharing our class book together each afternoon. At the moment, we are enjoying Explorers by Katherine Rundell, and we can't wait to discover many more wonderful stories together throughout the year.
We're excited for the year ahead in Otters Class, and for the rich diversity of thinking, ideas and outcomes that will come from our children learning and working together. We can't wait to see all the amazing things the academic year has in store for us!
