Cygnets Y1

Meet the teacher - Mrs Jeffery

Welcome to Cygnet Class!

We are a kind and caring class of twenty-six Y1 children. Our class teacher is Mrs Jeffery but on a Tuesday afternoon Miss Benson teaches us. We also have Mrs Allwood who helps us every morning and on a Monday afternoon.

In Cygnets, we have an inviting and purposeful classroom environment, including a role playhouse, reading area and we are lucky enough to have an outdoor learning area just outside our classroom which we love using.

In mathematics we like to learn through practical activities to ensure that we gain a deep understanding, before moving onto pictorial and abstract concepts. Our maths resources station is always open for us to access.

In English we look at a range of interesting books. This year we started by looking at the book ‘The Robot and the Bluebird’ as our whole school text. We will be writing in a range of different outcomes such as, letter writing, non-chronological reports, description writing to name a few! When we write stories, we have a whole class story map where we recite the story and come up with actions to help us remember.

Every Monday afternoon we spend our time in our school forest where the children explore and play. We link these afternoons to either science, looking at seasons, materials and animals or geography looking at weather patterns.

One day each big term we go to Folly Farm and learn so many things about the seasons, plants and animals to support our science curriculum.
